I loved Nine too, I saw it three times in the theaters. I think I may the biggest Nine ever, considering how many people disliked it. My favorite film of the year, and I was a little disappointed it didn't make your top 10 list. But Penelope deserved the second Oscar. Seriously. And Marion Cotillard being snubbed is a joke, IMO.

I totally agree with Richard's assessment of Mo'nique's performance, for almost the entire movie. She plays a very emotion-driven, heavy handed character who really does only touch upon two notes. Until the last scene. There I believe she steals the movie, and takes that oscar. Farmiga and Gyllenhal are both excellent, but i don't think have enough to work with in their roles to take the award from Mo'nique, who's role was much much juicier. If not for that last scene I'd say it could have been a battle, but I give it up to Mo'nique.

Hey Richard you're the best, well, you and Roger Ebert.
Take care thanks for the great reviews.

Hey Richard, I LOVED Nine too! In fact, it's #3 on my top 10 list.
I haven't seen Precious yet, so I can't comment on whether Mo'Nique deserves it or not, but I agree with you on Gyllenhaal. She was lovely and excellent in Crazy Heart. Then again, I loved Anna Kendrick in Up in the Air too. And Vera Farmiga. And Cruz. STRONG category IMO! Although, as much as I loved Cruz, I think Marion Cotillard was more deserving of a nod over Cruz.

I really think that Monique it's not only the favorite, but also is one of the best performances of this year's nominees. this is a strong and complex character, i really don't think "she's a one dimensional character" and the "she goes from meaner to devil" i really do think that she has a human side. and you can see it on the scene when she's talking with the social worker. i think it's really a surprise to see someone that has(let's face it) had a mediocre career, gave such a powerful performance.

First off, Mo'Nique gave the performance of the year.
If you've seen "Precious" and "Crazy Heart," why don't you review them?
