Clearly the scenes involving supernatural powers did not actually occur. They took place only in Riggan's mind. So who is to say the objectionable scene with the critic actually occurred? Because of the play's production troubles and his twenty-year history of failure, Riggan was expecting a bad review. The conversation with the critic, and every other scene involving Riggan, is more an indication of the state of his mind than of actual events. For, as you say, just as no object would fly across the room with the wave of his hand, no real critic would announce the result of a review before even seeing the play.

I could not agree more with Richard. "Birdman" is phenomenal. Michael Keaton gives the best performance of his career. Give him the Oscar now. I never thought I would say this, but Zach Galifianakas was very good. Edward Norton, Emma Stone and Naomi Watts were all terrific. I actually thought Norton was crazier than Keaton in this movie (At least in a few scenes.)! I totally agree with Richard's criticism of the New York Times theater critic. One criticism I have is the unresolved ending. That issue I have is the only reason why I would give this movie an "A" like Richard has and not an "A+". Since I do not want to spoil the movie I will not discuss it here. Just another reason why I highly recommend you see this excellent movie.

What price fame? BIRDMAN draws you in to follow the life of a has-been actor whose career is on a downward plunge. So when the soared heights plummet to the ground, MICHAEL KEATON'S brilliant performance lays bare the price tag that comes with it..even giving credence to his paranoid delusions. It's dark & fascinating...just waiting to nab the best pic & best actor nominations for both the movie & the actor.
