nonya said on Saturday, October 15, 2011 2:22:54 PM their are a lot of pitfalls when older movies get re-released, you have hollywood authentic period pieces then you have real period pieces. Ghostbusters is an 80's period piece in it's own right, the costumes the cars, the bad acne, the bad lighting, cheesy dialogue, characters who no longer bring their fame into the equation because they've lost their shine over time.... it all distracts from what at it's release was a very good movie, most period movies suffer from pop culture references that get lost over time as well and Ghostbusters is not entirely exempt. the special effects are distractingly cheesy and as a viewer I'm being asked to ignore the horrible effects despite the reality that a minimal investment could clean most of the special effects up, it's like trying to watch a movie thats getting bad reception with much being lost in distracting static, most if not all older effects driven films suffer horribly from this and Ghostbusters for all it's charms drags badly because of it... sharp witty dialogue requires sharp and witty visuals and no distractions from the experience or delivery or else it becomes bland. my wife and I just watched a DVD directors cut of the first Alien and I remember back in the day how scared I was, how excited I was by the special effects but this time around I was just bored.... it's a shame, we have the technology fix it, no need to toy with dialogue or add scenes but the effects will either impress or distract it's the studio's legacy and their choice. some complain and would decry any such modifying of any movie right after they'd seen the new version and right after they had bought the new version on DVD and then bought the new new version on blu ray with 40hrs of additional behind the scenes footage.
