I didn't feel any sympathy towards Gil Pender and so unfortunately felt less engaged in Midnight in Paris than I would have liked...enjoyed the time travel element though.

What starts out as a beautiful film about a man who discovers a chance to live in his own idealized past is destroyed halfway through the film when Allen has his protagonist's fantasizing about the past ruined by . . . his fantasy from the past.

And how obnoxious to have the snooty, self-indulgent, pseudo-intellectual articulate the director's theme. The sniping at Conservative's was dull. And how can one condemn romanticizing the past when one romanticizes a city?

Just because Woody Allen is bitter and hopeless doesn't mean we have to be bitter and hopeless also.

This movie really resonated with me. Maybe I'm just a Gil living in a world of Inez's.

Was not thrilled with this movie... but here are my pros/cons:
Pros: you really get a feel for the magic of paris, good acting, great message

Cons:
the writing (overkill on the message of "enjoy the moment/era you're in"),
Rachel McAdams character was one-note (all evil, not multi-dimensional) even though she was given a fair amount of screen time,
I watched on blu-ray and thought the picture was grainy... thought this movie deserved better cameras, and
I disagree about Owen Wilson's acting... wasn't impressed (I will say though, that his overly nasal voice kinda bothers me, think he should work on that or change his tone for some of his movies)

just got back from seeing it with my lady. it was great! we both enjoyed it immensely. I wasn't sure where it was going really, but once he went back in time it pulled me in.

if i had to give this movie a grade i would give it a C. the movie just didnt seem it had a point. The whole movie seemed to be rushed and like many woody allen movies by the end of the movie it just seemed like he didnt know how to end it. A movie that is 88 minutes shouldnt feel rushed at all. It should make me want to see much more but by the end i just wanted to get out. my last thing is ik that maybe the charm would be lost if he explained the reason y this happens but what happens to the rest of France at midnight since apparently this happens every night when this whole thing happens? It just barely entertained me. i think it would of been better as a 30 minute short film
