“Prisoners” is a white-knuckle, near-masterpiece of a thriller; Hugh Jackman delivers the best performance of his career.

I agree with everything you said about the quality of this film. The acting is amazing and the director wonderfully crafted a tense mood throughout this film. However I feel like the whole point of this movie (People of faith always lose faith or act hypocritically in the face of dire situations) is an insult to people like Wilma Derksen, who had the exact same thing happen to her but immediately chose forgiveness.

I think the film was perfectly paced, not too long at all. The dreadful tone never lets up, and the long length milks that for all its worth.

I agree totally with Richard here. I hope Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal earn Oscar nominations. This is the movie the 1992 American remake of "The Vanishing" tried to be.
