“Selma” does a brilliant job of laying out history without becoming a history lesson.

Selma depicted people fighting for the right to vote, fighting against racist authority trying to prevent them from attaining those rights. Recent news events pertain to THUGS, who have no respect for the law and who resist arrest, who are killed either in exercise of a cop's right to defend himself or by accident due in part to the law breaker's own obesity. Even Trayvon had a record and was high on drugs. Big difference, and it's an insult to those who fought in Selma to suggest that these thugs somehow are discriminated against just as they were. Ridiculous. Don't go all-liberal like your pal Ebert did. He lost a ton of credibility as he did, Roeper.
