Justin H said on Friday, July 27, 2012 8:27:42 PM I enjoyed watching The Artist, but I can understand why most moviegoers were turned off. It is a completely different viewing experience than what we are used to. I get the artistic choices to use the 1.37:1 aspect ratio and mono sound. They were trying to emulate the viewing experience of a 1920's silent movie. However, I think the movie would have been more accessible if done in the more normal 1.85:1 (flat) aspect and with a 5.1 sound mix. I'll even go so far as to say doing it in color rather than black and white might have roused the interests of more people. That being said, I thought The Artist told a wonderful story. Although I was constantly distracted by how different the viewing experience was, I am glad I gave the movie a chance.

A waste of beautiful images; I can go to the Art Institute and not have to suffer through the juvenile narration and a mediocre Sean Penn! Badlands was a long time ago, give it up.
Philip Moore said on Wednesday, February 01, 2012 11:30:13 PM Hey Rich, I loved this film as well it's in my top ten of 2011 and I think knowing the way the academy votes, this could well win Best Picture and I would be totally cool with that. Although my favourite film of 2011 was The Tree Of Life.
