@Harlan you actually described it as the movie it should have been but failed. It should have been a great thriller but it ended up being a pretty lame one with two great actors and a decent supporting cast.

I love Johnny Depp and the story. But there is definitely something wrong with the pace. I would give it B- actually...

Don't read Harlan's comment below, as his comment purports to give away the movie. What a douche!

I enjoyed this movie very much. I love Venice so I considered her to be another of the movie's stars. I figured out what was going on near the end of the film. I thought the stars had chemistry and I liked the plot twists. I guess there wasn't enough violence for most critics. They love the senseless violence as per Scorcese's over the top dramas and this one was a little lacking on that kind of violence for violence's sake.

I thought this movie was excellent. I would have given it a B+ if not an A because it had everything in it from acting, direction, score, cinematography, AND even storyline. It kept me on my toes until the very last scene because I didn't get it untill Depp revealed that HE was the Pearce. Great suspense and it should be a movie of the year contender. 4/ 5 in my books.
