You Don't Mess With the Zohan Review

You Don't Mess With the Zohan

(2008)

In theaters:
Friday, 6 June 2008

Summary: An Israeli Special Forces Soldier fakes his death so he can re-emerge in New York City as a hair stylist.

Genre:
Action, Comedy, Drama

Director:
Dennis Dugan

Cast:
Adam Sandler

"You Don’t Mess with the Zohan" is maybe the worst Adam Sandler movie ever, and remember, Sandler gave us the likes of "Little Nicky" and "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry." Sandler’s ego runs amok here. He apparently thinks that by giving himself a padded crotch, a stupid haircut, unexplained superhero powers and a lot of jokes involving hummus, that’s a movie. It’s not even a good sketch.

Tired of counter-terrrorism, the Zohan moves to New York and pursues his lifelong dream of becoming a hairstylist. This leads to an endless parade of gags involving Sandler boinking old ladies in a hair salon.

"You Don’t Mess With the Zohan" is an equal opportunity offender, with broadly stereotyped jokes about Jews, Arabs, the elderly, you name it. Other gags about disco and Hacky Sack would have been dated 20 years ago. Adam Sandler can be a funny guy. But I can’t imagine anyone who’s not on the Sandler payroll thinking this was a worthwhile project. This is one of the worst movies of this or any other year.
